This Local Espresso is going to be a short shout out to an artist that I think every underground hip hop lover should keep an eye on. MC Colorless is a local star from Cedar Rapids who has been doing quite a bit of expanding. Originally from Iowa this corn fed boy left us a few years ago for sunny California. He recently dropped a brand new music video entitled "Jim Duggin'", produced by JBooth Productions. I’ve been checking out JBooth’s work on YouTube and I have to say he’s made some nice videos for local artists. So if anyone’s looking to put something out Local Espresso recommends JBooth.
“Jim Duggin’” features the talents of DJ Bizeone, and has a couple guests’ appearances from other artists such as Phoenix the Misfit. It was shot just before Super Fresh Culture Fest and actually was done in about two days. Talk about hard working! These guys know how to get shiz done. Although the video is pretty comical; this poor guy cannot catch a ride to save his life, the lyrics have a personal meaning to Colorless. The song is actually about knowing who you are as an artists and embracing it. Colorless told me, “It’s about being a indie hip hop artist and not conforming. People don’t like my raps, or the way I look, but I’m like okay I’ll just be the nerdy white guy that I am. I’ll just be myself.” And I’m pretty sure all the Colorless fans out there will agree with me when I say “Colorless we love your swag, keep doing what you’re doing”.
Since Colorless is a part of Mic Hand Recordings, he travels back and forth from California to Iowa a lot so don’t worry you’ll be able to catch him doing his thing in Iowa soon enough. In fact, he plans on coming back in May and he told LE exclusively that he’s trying to cook up some sick acts in Iowa. I hate to name drop, just kidding I love it, but Colorless is currently working on getting Digital Underground up here with a live band. No that is not a typo I wrote Digital Underground and I meant it. He’s also releasing a new album that he produced in L.A. Colorless assured me that we’re in for a surprise, “it's different from any album I’ve done. It’s not so sample heavy” so be sure to check out his website for the release. If you want to check out his older album “Pack My Bags and Go” featuring the song “Jim Duggin’” you can cop it by hitting MC Colorless up on Twitter, and Facebook. He loves you so much he’s giving ‘em out for FREE, so be sure to show him some love and follow, like and all that jazz. Mic Hand Productions website is currently under construction but when it gets up and running Colorless tells me his merch will be available there, so go and get yourself some swag. Oh and last but certainly not least, Colorless told LE, “We’re getting the band back together” which means he’ll be on tour this year with JNatural and a few other artists. So if you’re in San Diego on April 18th and happen to be around the Ruby Room go see a great show, if you’re not keep posted on future tour dates, or make a petition saying they should come back to good ‘ol Iowa. Local Espresso will be sure to sign that shiz.
Check out Marq Divine in Des Moines, IA at Vaudeville Mews on May 2nd. Divines been working with a couple D.M.I artists and I’m proud to say he’ll be killing it on the mic in my home town. Also Colorless told me one of my California favorites is also a do-gooder. Open Mike Eagle will be going to Africa to teach kids hip hop, and is also laying down some tracks there. He’s raising money for the tour so if you’re interested in helping out please go to his website.
